The Permanent Committee of the Romanense Sports Hall of Fame announced the choice of Juanita King Sandoval, Pedro Mateo and Ramón Isidro del Rosario “Cibaíto” to be exalted at the VIII Ceremonial Gala,

King Sandoval, selected in athletics; Mateo, in karate, and Del Rosario as promoter, will be immortalized on Sunday, September 4 during a ceremony scheduled to start at 10:00 in the morning in the Alianza Juvenil auditorium.

This was reported by Dr. José Reyes, president of the Romanense Sports Hall of Fame, through a press release.

Reyes indicated that along with King Sandoval, Mateo and Del Rosario, nine other athletes will be introduced as immortals. In that sense, he recalled that three of them, Juan Báez, Melvin Estrella de León and José Antonio Mejía, were announced last week.

He said that King Sandoval, Mateo and Del Rosario enter immortality, the result of brilliant performances in their respective disciplines. This year the outstanding sports leader Israel Altagracia will be the honorary president.

Juanita King had an award-winning career in national and international athletics, in javelin throwing, starting her career in 1983 in one of the gatherings of this discipline organized by the Central Romana Corporation. Her impact was immediate and she won gold medals at the San Pedro de Macorís 1983 National Games, Moca 1985 with a national record, San Cristóbal 1987 and La Vega 1992, where she was her last performance.

At the international level, he managed to qualify for the Central American and Caribbean Championship of the Bahamas 85 and from there he managed to participate in the Central American and Caribbean Games, Santiago 1986, where he obtained fourth place.

He established his national mark in 1987 with 53.70 meters achieved in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. He also had an outstanding performance in Puerto Rico with the University of Turabo and in the Military Sports Circle of the Armed Forces and National Police, representing the National Army.

Pedro Mateo began his training at a very young age in La Romana, with Carlos Saldaña in the 70’s, showing great potential for this sport. He entered the Dominican Air Force, which meant the launch of his career.

With fearsome kicks, good movements and wisdom, he managed to become the champion of the Military Games for six consecutive years, from 1981 to 1987 in the heavy category. In that same period he was a national team and won the San Francisco de Macoris 1979 and San Pedro 1986 National Games. He was runner-up in the Pan American Karate held in Guatemala in 1986 and dominated a large number of national tournaments in that discipline.

Ramón Isidro del Rosario enters sports immortality in this VIII Ceremonial in the category of driver, for his contributions in various disciplines.

Coming from San Francisco de Macorís, he arrived in La Romana at the age of 17, where as a result of his work he manages to establish himself as a prosperous businessman in the transport sector, where in his vocation for service he chooses to help others and sport is not excluded there. .

The list of sports clubs and athletes that “Cibaito” has extended his hand to is endless and has also supported ASOBARO in Superior Basketball Tournaments. There are thousands of sports uniforms and supplies donated by “Cibaito” to institutions and clubs, regardless of which neighborhood or sector they belong to.

These three chosen ones join the previously announced Melvin Estrella de León in boxing, José Antonio Mejía “Chichi Bolita” in softball and Juan Báez as sports reporter and narrator.
