Karthik wants to play the role of finisher in the T20 World Cup, said what is the ultimate goal

Dinesh Karthik, who single-handedly won several matches for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 15th season of the Indian Premier League, wants to play the role of finisher for the India team in the 2022 T20 World Cup. Karthik feels what makes a batsman to be a good finisher, from handling pressure to assessing match conditions and adapting on few balls.

Karthik made scoring easy on a slow wicket, scoring an unbeaten 41 from just 19 balls with a strike rate of around 213. India scored 190 runs for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs against West Indies in the opening T20 match of the five game series. Following this, India defeated the hosts by 68 runs to take a 1-0 lead.

Karthik also said that he is looking forward to playing a role in India’s campaign during the ICC T20 World Cup in Australia in October-November this year. He added: “When you play for the team in the middle order, you have to focus a lot on your feet in terms of assessing the conditions and judging the ball, what kind of shots you can play.”

Karthik, in a conversation with Ravichandran Ashwin on bcci.tv, said he played the role of ‘finisher’ where the team’s total was 160-165 after Ravindra Jadeja’s ground fell. After that there was a big difference on the scoreboard. Before that, there was a period where we had to deal with the pressure on the team and after that, Ashwin and we reduced the pressure from the team and brought the score to 190.

Karthik also indicated how eager he is to play in the T20 World Cup. He said that we want to play in the World Cup for the team. The ultimate goal is to win the T20 World Cup.
