The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has included a total of 30 players in various categories in the Players Central Contract List released for the year 2023-24. While 7 players included in the last contract did not get a place in any class this time, this time 11 new players were included in the contract. BCCI did not include the names of Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan in the new annual contract, hence the reaction of many former players can be seen. Meanwhile, World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev lauded the board’s decision and said it was a necessary step to save premier tournaments like the Ranji Trophy.

BCCI absolutely made the right decision

Speaking about the Indian Cricket Board’s new annual central contract, Kapil Dev said that while it will cause trouble for some players and some people, no one is bigger than the country. This decision by the board is absolutely correct. I congratulate the BCCI for taking necessary steps to keep an eye on domestic cricket. It makes me very sad to see a player who proves himself fully in international cricket not giving so much importance to domestic cricket and stops playing there. The board should have passed this message on to all players a long time ago.

International players should play domestic cricket

World Cup winning captain Kapil Dev further said in his statement that I have always believed that players who impress everyone with their play in international cricket should play for their state in domestic cricket whenever they get time . Because that gives great support to the domestic players too. Apart from releasing the annual Players Central Contract List, BCCI has also decided to increase the pension of former players. Kapil Dev also thanked the board for this decision. He said that I am glad that BCCI has increased the pension amount of players, which will benefit those whose families rely on pension.
