Juventus win the Serie A derby, Cremonese smiles at last

Juventus could still qualify for Europe despite receiving a 15-point reduction for false accounting.

The Bianconeri came back twice from being down by one goal and defeated 4-2 in the derby on Tuesday to settle in seventh place in Serie A.

They are six points behind Atalanta, at the moment owners of the Italian place for the Conference League, and just 10 units behind the Champions League positions.

Torino struck first with a goal after 92 seconds, the work of French striker Yann Karamoh.

Colombian midfielder Juan Cuadrado equalized for Juve at 16 with a shot that inflated the net after hitting an opponent.

Torino restored their lead in the 43rd with another point-blank shot from Paraguayan attacker Antonio Sanabria, and Brazilian full-back Danilo made it 2-2 with a header in stoppage time.

At 68, Paul Pogba made his season debut after a long period of inactivity due to injury. The French midfielder returned to Juve in July but injured his knee almost immediately.

Brazilian defender Gleison Bremer, a former Torino player, put Juventus ahead for the first time in the 71st with a header into the heart of the box.

Adrien Rabiot signed the fourth for Juventus by redirecting a free kick at 81.

Prior to the start of the match, Juventus announced that it had filed its appeal against the punishment for false accounting before the highest instance of the country’s sports justice within the Italian Olympic Committee.

CREMONESE FINALLY WINS

After nearly three decades and six and a half months of agony this season, Cremonese was finally able to claim victory in an Italian Serie A game.

The club that promoted to the first division this season defeated Roma 2-1, thanks to a penalty taken by Daniel Ciofani after Romanista coach José Mourinho was sent off for protesting earlier in the game.

Cremonese’s 30-match winless run in Serie A dated back to their previous contest in 1995-96. They had tied the league record with Ancona, who went winless between 1993 and 2004.

Frank Tsadjout put Cremonese ahead in the early going with a saber shot.

Mourinho saw the red card at the end of the first half for his vehement claims to the referee.

Leonardo Spinazzola temporarily equalized for Roma midway through the second half.

A foul by the Romanista goalkeeper Rui Patricio led to the penalty that Ciofani took at 83 minutes.

It was actually the second win in a row for Cremonese over Roma. They had knocked out the Giallorossi to reach the Coppa Italia semifinals earlier in the month.

The victory allowed Cremonese to move from the bottom of the table, one point ahead of Sampdoria. They are eight units away from salvation.

Meanwhile, Roma remains in fifth place, one point above its capital rival Lazio and the last place for the next Champions League.
