Julius Vaccari: "It was sad the decision they made"

Julio Vaccari, former coach of Vélez, regretted this Thursday the decision of the board to dismiss him after qualifying the team for the round of 16 of the Copa Libertadores de América and acknowledged that it was “sad”.

“Nobody ever approached us to tell us anything more about it. We let things flow and we dedicated ourselves to putting Vélez in the place he deserves and for these boys to rediscover their roots to make the fans smile. At no time did I think that football production was in danger,” commented the DT on TNT Sports.

“When they communicated to me the decision that I would continue until that date, which came out on the club’s official website, it was sad. It’s strange, but no one ever approached us to tell us anything else about it,” Vaccari said.

The new coach will be the Uruguayan Alexander Medina, who will sign in the coming days for at least one season, after his bad time with Inter in Brazil.

“A result is not going to make me change any decision. What excites me is that there are good projects in place and in whatever way to do what one really feels with convictions and noble people. Then, I don’t stop at it is in the First Division or in the Reserve, in Vélez or elsewhere,” he said.

On the other hand, Vaccari supported the decision of his rival, Ricardo Zielinski, who decided to put juveniles in the closing of the Libertadores group, which benefited his team.

“I would have done the same, without risking an expulsion, or a yellow to the centrals or to some important player, being already classified, knowing that you can lose players for the round of 16. It would be illogical,” he argued.

In relation to the team, in Vélez they await a possible offer from abroad for striker Lucas Janson, the highest point of this last semester, although the idea of the leadership is to retain the entire squad and add at least one reinforcement per line.

The squad will return to training next Monday at the Olympic Village.
