José Quiles has also been encouraged to take the leap. The member of the National Team will debut as a professional boxer in a six-round bout on December 16 at his home, Elda, Alicante. Lee Anthony Sibley (1-0-0, 1KO), an English boxer residing in the Canary Islands, was going to be his rival, but he has decided that he is not going to fight and they are looking for another opponent. “I have seen that the time was right for this. I am very happy and very motivated” explains the Olympic boxer. José Quiles has been eight times champion of Spain in amateur, bronze medal (2017 in Ukraine) and silver (2022 in Armenia) in the European Championships and participated in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games. “It is being a strong preparation, it is being tough. There are six rounds, you have to work because I’m used to three” says Quiles.
His debut doesn’t make him stop thinking about the Olympics. Like some of his teammates, José Quiles wants to combine amateur and professional boxing until Paris 2024. “When Paris is over I will focus on professional boxing. Have a couple of fights and try to opt for a title as soon as possible, ”he reveals. He already thinks about playing the Spanish and European Championships, he wants to “try to rank fast and play the World Cup”.
José Quiles is not the only boxer from the National Team who has made the leap to professional in recent months.
