Anthony Santander hit a tiebreaking single in the ninth inning after hitting a two-run homer, and the Baltimore Orioles rallied from two six-run deficits to beat the Boston Red Sox 12-8 on Friday.

Baltimore trailed 8-2 before Jorge Mateo hit a three-run homer in the seventh and Austin Hays added a two-run homer in the eighth.

The Orioles also capitalized on an error by third baseman Rafael Devers to get the tying run in the eighth.

Santander’s single off Matt Strahm (2-2) fell right in front of right fielder Jackie Bradley Jr., who dived for it, allowing Cedric Mullins to score.

Mullins led off the inning with a single and advanced to third on a hit by Trey Mancini, with a slide that avoided Devers’ bunt.

The Orioles got three more runs in the ninth and Jorge Lopez allowed no runners in the bottom. Baltimore’s bullpen limited Boston to one hit after the fifth inning.

Boston fans booed as the Orioles celebrated. Baltimore outscored the Red Sox 15-14 to open the five-game series.

For the Red Sox, Puerto Rican Christian Vázquez 5-1 with an RBI and Enrique Hernández 5-1 with a run scored; and the Dominicans Rafael Devers 5-3 with 3 runs scored and Franchy Cordero 4-2 with a run scored.

Pete Alonso hit a home run and a double, to total four RBIs and become the leading producer of the campaign, in the duel that the New York Mets won on Friday 8-6 over the Philadelphia Phillies.

Philadelphia trailed Carlos Carrasco (5-1) 7-0 but tightened the game by scoring six times in the sixth inning, capped by a three-run homer by Garrett Stubbs.

The relievers Drew Smith, the Dominican Joely Rodríguez, Seth Lugo and the Puerto Rican Edwin Díaz, resisted so that New York, leader of the Eastern Division of the National League, beat Philadelphia for the seventh time in 10 duels this season.

Díaz achieved his eleventh save in 14 attempts.

Alonso has driven in 45 runs on the season and has specialized in hurting the Phillies, hitting five home runs and 17 RBIs over 10 games against him.

The loss went to starter Bailey Falter (0-2), fresh from Triple-A.

For the Phillies, Jean Segura 3-0 with an RBI. The Venezuelan Odúbel Herrera 3-2 with a run scored.

For the Mets, Dominican Starling Marte 5-2 with two runs scored. Puerto Ricans Francisco Lindor 2-1 with three runs scored and one RBI, Tomás Nido 3-1 with a run scored. The Venezuelan Eduardo Escobar 3-0 with an RBI.
