Jorge Alfaro hit a hit to right field that drove in Ronny Mauricio from second base in the ninth inning for the Tigres del Licey to beat the Aguilas Cibaeñas 2-1, in a game full of alternatives at the Quisqueya Juan Marichal stadium.
With their victory, the 27th of the season, the Tigers reached their qualification for the Round Robin. Now they have a 5-4 lead in their particular series against the Cibaeños.
Taylor Kohlwey started the ninth receiving a walk, Mauricio singled and after Ramón Hernández hit into double plays, Alfaro produced his line hit to right, his second hit in the few games he has played with the Blues.
The victory went to Jairo Asencio, who pitched the ninth act without problems and Yohan Ramírez lost.
Roenis Elías, for the Cibaeños, and Albert Abréu, for the Blues, had engaged in a pitching duel, Elías performing masterfully with just two hits and fanning seven.
The Eagles were the first to score when they marked their return in the sixth act with a single by Geraldo Perdomo, reached second through Jonathan Aro’s balk and scored on an uncatchable to Yairo Muñoz’s right-hander.
The cats equalized at the conclusion of that act, when after two outs, Emilio Bonifacio received a walk, advanced to second base, then left third base and with a missed throw from catcher Joe Hudson entered the race with the tie.
