Jesús Mejía returns to the Bulls on a three-year contract as manager

Jesús Mejía regresa a los Toros en contrato de tres años como gerente

The Toros del Este officially announced Jesús Mejía as their new general manager. The announcement was confirmed by Luis Emilio Rodríguez, president of the team, after closing negotiations on Tuesday at the offices of the Estadio Micheli in La Romana.

“We are happy to receive Jesús Mejía back in the Corral, who this time is integrated as general manager of the Bulls, bringing with him important achievements within his experience directing the baseball operations department for other teams in our winter league,” he said. Rodriguez.

Mejía returns to the Bulls after having been part of the Bullfighting Baseball Operations staff from 2014 to 2020, being an important part of the crown of national and Caribbean champions of the Romanense club in that 2019-20 season. He likewise worked with the Leones del Escogido from 2009 to 2014, being champion with the scarlet team three times

In 2020 he was named general manager of the Gigantes del Cibao, attending the playoffs in his three seasons with the Francomacorisans, including consecutive finals in his first two seasons and the championship title in 2021-22. “Although many took these last days to disconnect and rest, for us they were key days of work that allowed us to study the opportunities that arose in search of a new manager and to be able to start the conversations that have led us to today to define an agreement with Jesús Mejía” pointed out the president of the Bulls. Jesús Mejía, elected Manager of the Year in 2021-22, comes to the La Romana team under a guaranteed three-year contract, valid until the 2025-2026 season. “I feel very happy, I feel that I am returning home with Toros del Este, a team with which I was linked for six years in a first stage and to which I am now returning to structure its operations department, especially its roster of players that faces a new cycle as a result of the implementation of free agency”, highlighted Mejía. “We will work immediately to achieve the best possible integration of talent that stands out on the field of play, achieving the balance of harmony between all the players, leaders and coaches. I have the support of the Board of the Bulls, but above all I have the support of the bullfighting fans, without whose enthusiasm and joy from the stands it would not be possible to ignite the spark of the Corral. Let’s go for another Torolío, count on that”, said Jesús Mejía.

The new general manager will soon be announcing the formation of his Baseball Operations staff that will be working day and night in the free agency process, which starts this coming February 15.
