Ivan Marcone: "I have had this dream for many years"

Midfielder Iván Marcone admitted on Tuesday that it is the “most important day” of his career because he will fulfill his dream of playing for Independiente, a club of which he is a fan. Prior to his admission to undergo a medical examination, the step prior to signing the contract, the player from Elche, Spain, expressed his joy at fulfilling the “greatest dream” of his career.

“I’ve had this dream for many years and I’m hoping it can come true,” Marcone said at an impromptu press conference outside a Buenos Aires clinic. “It is the most important day. Although I had the opportunity to win titles and be in important clubs, the desire and happiness of being able to be in Independiente is greater,” he added.

After passing through Arsenal, Lanús, Boca, Cruz Azul and Elche, the central midfielder will play for the club of which he is a fan. “It’s a difficult feeling to explain. I spent my whole life in the stands with my dad. I’m going to try to enjoy it,” said the 32-year-old midfielder. “I will try to convey what I feel for the club, but I must be professional, manage my anxiety and put that feeling aside a bit,” he warned.

The player has been in the country for three weeks and will have to do physical work to catch up with the squad led by Eduardo Domínguez, with whom he spoke a few days ago. “The last time I spoke was after what happened and it was to clarify things. Surely he did not want to say what was later interpreted,” he confided.

Domínguez had questioned Marcone’s intention to play for “Rojo” by recalling that when he was a soccer player and had the desire to play for Huracán, he lowered his financial claims and arranged his arrival.

“We did a lot to make it happen. The desire and desire were always on my side, but not everything is in our hands. The clubs put their obstacles in. And my representative also did everything possible because he wanted to fulfill my wish,” he said.

Marcone’s representative is Christian Bragarnik, who is also the largest shareholder of Elche, from Spain. Independiente will pay two million dollars for the pass but in four installments that will only begin to be charged next year.
