It will take another 250 years to end violence against women and provide justice

The United Nations says that a world where women have full equal rights will take about two and a half hundred years to build. By the end of this year, about 383 million women and girls will go into extreme poverty.

According to the international website, a report of the United Nations has said that due to various recent crises, the gap found due to gender discrimination in the world has widened.

According to the report, based on the pace at which progress is currently being made to address this issue, it can be said that it will take another three centuries for the international community to achieve full gender equality.

The report was prepared by UN Women, a subsidiary of the United Nations, and the organization says that the current rate of progress in efforts to achieve gender equality is hindering legal protection. It would take another 286 years to cross the gulf and end the discriminatory laws.

In addition, women will have to wait another 140 years for equal representation in terms of power and leadership in the workplace, and at least another 40 years for equal representation in national parliamentary institutions.

The future prospects for gender equality mentioned in this report are far from the time set for achieving universal gender equality by 2030 under the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals or SDGs. are

UN Women has prepared this report in collaboration with the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

Global challenges such as the covid-19 pandemic and its aftermath, violent conflict, climate change and sexual assaults against women, as well as their health and fertility and the neglect of their rights, have led to gender inequality, the report said. The equality gap has widened.

The report states that by the end of this year, approximately 383 million women and girls will be pushed into extreme poverty and will have to survive on the equivalent of US$1.90 a day.

In comparison, the number of men and boys suffering from the same conditions will be around 368 million.

By the end of 2021, 44 million women and girls had been forcibly displaced, the highest number ever recorded. In addition, more than 1.2 billion women and girls of childbearing age live in countries where access to abortion is restricted.

UN Women’s Executive Director Seema Bauhaus said that if we want to develop and accelerate it, investing urgently in the development of women and girls is critical.

He said in a statement that data shows that global crises in issues such as income, security, education and health have worsened the condition of women. The longer it takes us to reverse this trend, the higher the cost.
