The Chancellor Omar Paganini was consulted this Tuesday on the UN resolution calling for a ceasefire Ribbonin the war between Israel and Hamas.
Paganini recalled that Uruguay had called for this “temporary ceasefire to pave the way for more permanent peace negotiations, always based on the two-state principle.”
“What the UN Security Council has decided goes in the same direction. They are talking about a ceasefire during Ramadan in order to then create peace conditions and the release of all hostages. I understand that both things are fundamental, because hostages are unusual in an international conflict. For Uruguay, what the Security Council has decided seems to be positive in this sense,” said the Chancellor.
Asked whether Israel’s attacks on Gaza were disproportionate, Paganini replied: “It is time to be concerned about the humanitarian situation in Gaza and, in this sense, to facilitate access to all channels of humanitarian aid, apart from the fact “We must not forget that Hamas has committed terrible acts of terrorism.”
Regarding this humanitarian situation, the Chancellor was asked: Who is responsible, Israel or Hamas? Responsibility lies “with everyone involved in the conflict,” Paganini replied.
