The runway of the international airport of the earthquake-stricken Syrian city of Aleppo was destroyed in an Israeli attack.
According to Syrian state media, Israel has launched an airstrike on Aleppo airport, destroying its runway. Operational services at the airport have been suspended following the attack.
SANA news agency says that the missile attacks took place in the early hours of Tuesday morning.
Citing a military source, SANA agency said that Israel launched an airstrike west of Latakia from the direction of the Mediterranean Sea, targeting Aleppo’s international airport.
The city of Aleppo, which suffered massive destruction in the Syrian war, was once again severely damaged by a 7.8-magnitude earthquake that hit southern Turkey and northwestern Syria last month. Several countries have since sent aid supplies to the city’s airport.
According to state media, Syria’s Ministry of Transport said in a statement that all scheduled flights, including those carrying humanitarian aid, had been suspended. "After the Israeli aggression” will be sent to Damascus and Latakia.
Israeli officials have not commented on the attack.
