Israel-Palestine War: The ceasefire came into force late Sunday night with the aim of ending violence between Israel and Palestinian militants that has been going on for nearly three days. Many Palestinian civilians were killed in this violence and the lives of thousands of Israelis have been affected. It was the worst clash between Israel and Gaza militants since last year’s 11-day fighting between Israel and Hamas. The ceasefire came into force at around 11:30 pm after Egyptian mediation. Israel carried out air strikes minutes before the ceasefire began. Israel said it would react strongly if the ceasefire was violated. Israel launched strikes in Gaza on Friday, while the Iran-backed Palestinian Jihad terrorist group fired hundreds of rockets at Israel in retaliation.
Many people including children died in the attack
Hamas, the militant group that governs Gaza, appeared to shy away from the conflict. Israel killed an Islamic Jihad leader on Friday and another prominent leader on Saturday. Khalid Mansour, the second commander of Islamic Jihad, was killed in an airstrike late Saturday night at the Rafah refugee camp in southern Gaza. As his funeral began in the Gaza Strip on Sunday, the Israeli ministry said it was attacking “rocket launch posts suspected of Islamic jihad”. The Israeli military said a rocket fired by Palestinian militants hit the city of Jabalia in northern Gaza late Saturday, killing several people, including children.
‘Joe Biden’ welcomes ceasefire
On Sunday, a missile hit a house in the same area of Jebalia, killing two people. Palestine has blamed Israel for this, while Israel says it is investigating whether the rocket landed in the same area as a result of the miss. Israel’s Defense Ministry said mortars fired from Gaza fell on the Erez border post in Israel, which is used daily by thousands of Gaza residents. Meanwhile, US President Joe Biden welcomed the ceasefire between Israel and Gaza-based militants. “Over the past 72 hours, the United States has worked with officials from Israel, the Palestine Authority, Egypt, Qatar, Jordan and other countries to find a solution to this conflict,” he said in a statement. There is a program to hold an emergency meeting on violence today i.e. on Monday.
