Is Boris Johnson’s Successor Pro-Bitcoin?

Boris Johnson will step down as UK Prime Minister on September 5. In the country, people are now busy with the following question: ‘who will be Boris Johnson’s successor?’ The successor will come from The Conservative Party and there are currently two top candidates. Both candidates have shown in the past that they bitcoin (BTC) to be.

The candidates are Rishi Sunak and Liz Truss. They will compete to take over the leadership of the party, and with it the premiership, in September. In 2018, Truss already argued for a rule-free approach towards bitcoin and Bitcoin cryptocurrencies. This so the UK could embrace the technology. In 2020, Truss was chairman of the Board of Trade. In that role she already took care of a digital trading network, which was beneficial for fintech companies. The aim was to digitize important export markets.

One of Truss’ competitors, Rishi Sunak, has also made decisions and statements in favor of crypto. He has previously indicated that the British government would make financial technology a priority. stablecoins and central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) are part of this. He has regularly promoted adoption of these stablecoins and other cryptocurrencies. Sunak also has the idea of the UK a global crypto hub to make. For that reason, he has requested The Royal Mint, a British government organization, to create an NFT (non-fungible token).

Is the UK Missing Crypto Opportunities?

Last month Former Finance Minister Philip Hammond also spoke negatively about the crypto policy of the United Kingdom. He believes that the country is lagging behind in terms of regulations and is therefore missing out on opportunities.

Whoever Boris Johnson’s successor becomes, they will agree on one thing. Bitcoin needs to be embraced and crypto opportunities exploited.
