Is Apple unveiling its VR glasses today? Metaverse crypto is already rising fast

Today, tech giant Apple may be launching a brand new product to announce. It’s probably one “mixed reality headset”. The announcement of these glasses is expected to take place later today at the company’s annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). With this, Apple already seems to have an influence on the crypto market.

The mixed reality headset is Apple’s version of VR glasses. Several competitors have already launched similar products in recent years, but Apple may want to go a step further. The Reality Pro, as the product is called, must virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) combine. It is the company’s first new product since the Smartwatch. It was launched eight years ago.

Apple vs. meta

With these new glasses, Apple breaks open the ‘metaverse’ frontier for itself, and this is very thin ice. Meta, the company behind Facebook, has already invested billions of dollars in the metaverse, but sees little success and has not yet managed to make it mainstream.

For example, Reality Labs, Meta’s metaverse arm, posted a loss of $4 billion in the first quarter of this year. This loss was on top of a loss of 14 billion in 2022. Despite this, Meta has no plans to stop. Mark Zuckerberg is unaffected by the fierce criticism of Meta’s financial choices. It’s a long-term vision, and Zuckerberg has said on several occasions that he remains optimistic about the future of VR and the metaverse. Whether Apple’s glasses can cause more commotion than Meta remains to be seen.

Effect on crypto

Despite this, Apple already seems to be having an effect on the crypto market with the glasses. Gradually, the hype catching on in the metaverse sector of crypto. Investors are already investing in projects such as The Sandbox (SAND) and decentraland (MANA). Both prices have been rising sharply in recent days. These projects also experienced a surge when Facebook changed its name to Meta in late 2021 and announced its metaverse plans.
