11 Islamic State (IS) militants were killed in airstrikes on Saturday in western and eastern Iraq. Giving this information, the Iraqi army said that IS has suffered a lot in this airstrike. The Iraqi Joint Operations Command (JOC) said in a media release that seven militants, including a local leader, were killed and a hideout destroyed in an airstrike in the al-Jallayat area of Anbar province in western Iraq.
In a separate statement, the JOC said in a separate statement that Iraqi aircraft acted on intelligence reports in Iraq’s eastern province of Diyala and carried out two airstrikes on an IS base on the shores of Lake Himreen, killing the militants, Xinhua news agency reported. Another IS terrorist was killed in a confrontation with the armed forces that were searching the hideout of the terrorists. The soldiers also destroyed three motorcycles, explosive devices and barrels full of explosives.
IS weakening in Iraq
Iraqi security forces have cracked down on extremist militants’ intensified activities over the past few months. The security situation in Iraq has been improving since the defeat of IS in 2017. However, its remains have since melted away in urban centres, deserts and rugged areas, fueling frequent guerilla attacks against security forces and civilians.
A few days ago there was an attack in Syria
Earlier, 13 people, including 11 soldiers, were killed and three were injured in an attack on an army bus in northern Syria. Syrian state media reported this citing an unnamed military official. According to the state-run news agency Sanaa, the attack took place in Raqqa province, which was once held by the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization. The news, however, did not say whether the bus was ambushed with machine guns or whether it was targeted by a missile or a roadside bomb. ISIS militants have carried out several such attacks in the past few months, in which dozens have lost their lives or injured.
