Uruguayan Drug Trafficker’s Wife Arrested in Madrid
Madrid, Spain – Gianina García Troche, the wife of Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset, has been arrested at Barajas airport in Madrid, authorities reported.
Arrest Details
García Troche, who was traveling from Dubai to Madrid, was arrested by local police at 8 a.m. (Uruguayan time) on Wednesday. She was alone and presented Uruguayan documentation at the time of her arrest.
International Arrest Warrant
Both García Troche and Marset are wanted by the Paraguayan justice system, with García Troche being investigated for money laundering and Marset accused of leading a drug trafficking network. Marset’s wife was the subject of an international arrest warrant.
Collaboration Between Law Enforcement Agencies
Interpol Uruguay collaborated with Interpol Spain to confirm García Troche’s identity and confirmed the woman’s identity when it received the notification and query from Interpol Spain. Throughout the international investigation into Marset, the Uruguayan police collaborated with 20 reports and 300 communications, said Interpol Uruguay director Danilo Alzamendi.
Defense Response
Marset’s lawyer, Santiago Moratorio, said that García Troche turned herself in because she was "tired of running for a crime she did not commit." However, the director of Investigations of the Uruguayan Police, Juan Rodríguez Reina, disputed this claim, saying that if her intention was to turn herself in, "why didn’t she do it in Dubai?"
