Uruguayan Drug Trafficker’s Wife Arrested at Spanish Airport
Interpol of Spain Arrests Giannina García Troche
Madrid, Spain – On Wednesday, Interpol of Spain arrested Giannina García Troche, the wife of Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset, at Barajas International Airport.
Uruguayan Police Provide Details on Capture
At a press conference held by Uruguayan police authorities at noon, National Director of Police Juan Rodríguez highlighted the work and cooperation between Uruguay and its Spanish counterpart through Interpol.
International Cooperation Key to Arrest
For his part, Danilo Alzamendi, director of Interpol Uruguay, stated that although García Troche is not a wanted person in Uruguay, "more than 20 intelligence reports and more than 300 international communications were made." Alzamendi clarified that "there is no warrant in our country, so intelligence work is being carried out in order to cooperate."
Contradictory Reports on Arrest
Asked about reports that the woman was not arrested but turned herself in, Rodríguez stated that "it is an issue that can be handled by the media by different actors, but the police in Spain arrested her at the airport. The rest are just versions." He questioned whether, if her intention was to surrender, she did not do so in Dubai, the place from which she left for Spain.
Traveling Alone
It was confirmed that García Troche was traveling alone and not with her children, as had been reported.
Uruguay Complies with Red Notices
Alzamendi added that, in the last period, Uruguay complied with 253 red notices, both in the country and abroad.
