Industria San Miguel anuncia expansión de RD$8,000MM en 5 años

Industria San Miguel (ISM) will invest R$8,000 million in the expansion of its production plant and distribution centers in the Dominican Republic, where it has been operating since 2005 and has created 2,200 direct jobs and 5,000 to 7,000 indirect jobs.

The expansion of ISM’s operations includes the future installation of several distribution centers in other provinces, including Pedernales, and the launch of new products such as Cola Malta, which was launched in the Azua market and will soon be introduced in the Capital.

The information was offered by the general manager of ISM, Arturo Marroquín, in a meeting in the Ricart Room, in Listín Diario, where he was accompanied by company executives Mario Medina, administrative and financial manager, and Lizzy González, manager of communications.

virtuous circles
“Actually, we have several projects, we consider virtuous circles in the expansion part, to develop the part of the area that surrounds the company, the communities, everything around it,” explained Marroquín. In addition to the plant on the border, they pay a lot of attention to the investment issue. These projects are sustainable and are part of the Corporate Social Responsibility with schools, during the pandemic, dengue, agreements with the Ministry of Health, help in reforestation on the border, especially in the headwaters of rivers.

Joint contributions have also been made with the Electricity Distribution Company of the North (Edenorte) and together with Ecored and the Botanist they support the planting of the roblillo tree, and with USAID in access to water.

“There are many projects that are sustainable over time that do not die with a single execution, but have been developed for many years and are part of Social Responsibility,” explained González, communications manager.

In this regard, Mario Medina, administrative and financial manager, indicated that vaccination days were held together with Public Health, two fans were donated in Santiago Rodríguez and Villa Los Almácigos, and refrigerators for the conservation of vaccines. Another of ISM’s contributions has to do with launching long-term sustainability issues, and this includes the move to the Caimito school. He highlighted the importance of creating jobs that ultimately generate a multiplier effect that includes services such as cap and label suppliers.

contributions
In addition to Social Responsibility projects, ISM contributes with the purchase of supplies, since 80% of these, including sugar, are nationally produced. Regarding its investments in the production plant, the investment exceeds US$140 million and an expansion is now contemplated for an amount of RD$8,000 million in the next five years, equivalent to a projected US$24 to US$25 million per year, that will be used for organic growth, improvement of all systems and for a range that they have in other markets and will be developed here

FIGURES How did they get to the DR?
The Marroquín family came on vacation to the Dominican Republic in 1999, where they saw an opportunity and after analyzing the market and competition conditions, they decided to settle in 2005, under Law 28-01, of border development and they are located in the community of Santiago Rodriguez.

That time was enough for them to structure and launch the project with a drink in a black glass bottle.

The black glass bottle was only distributed in the border area. The beginning was with people from the area and the production was a little more than 200 boxes.
