India's decision to ground MiG-21 flying coffins

New Delhi: India has decided to ground the MiG-21 aircraft that carry flying coffins.

According to Indian media, this decision has been taken by the government after the death of two officers in a plane crash a few days ago. Two days ago, a MiG-21 aircraft crashed, resulting in the death of two Air Force officers.

A senior official of the Indian Air Force said on condition of anonymity that the first squadron of the MiG-21 will be retired in September while the use of the MiG-21 will be completely phased out by 2025.

Air force officials say that before the planes are grounded, their replacements will be inducted into the Air Force.

The Indian Air Force currently has around 70 MiG-21 aircraft, while the Indian Air Force has been busy purchasing Western-made aircraft in recent years.

It should be noted that the MiG-21 aircraft, known as the ‘flying coffin’ due to accidents, was added to the Indian Air Force in 1963. Since 1971, more than 400 MiG-21 aircraft of the Indian Air Force have crashed.
