India-Nepal VS China: India will now complete the ambitious power project Paschim Seti i.e. West Seti of Nepal, which has been deceived by China. An MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) will be signed on Thursday between the Investment Board of Nepal and India’s state-owned company NHPC Limited on the Western Seti and Seti River-2 hydroelectric projects. After which NHPC will do the necessary study for the project and then the work of excavation etc. will be started. After that the construction work will start. Earlier, China pulled out of the project in 2018.

Nepal Investment Board spokesperson Amrit Lamsal has told the Kathmandu Post newspaper that the NHPC team is coming to Kathmandu on August 18 and the MoU will be signed here. Earlier, Nepal’s Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba had approved the proposal of NHPC to study 750 MW Paschim Seti Storage Hydropower Project and 450 MW Seti River-6 Hydropower Project in Far Western Province. .

China was associated with the project in 2012

Earlier, China wanted to build it in the year 2012 and was associated with the project till 2018 but later withdrew from it. India is going to complete the project after China withdrew from the project. This decision has been taken after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lumbini in Nepal on 16 May.

The entire project is said to have cost $2.4 billion. In view of the acute power shortage in India, the cooperation between New Delhi and Kathmandu on power projects has increased significantly.

India’s third such plan in Nepal

This is the third such scheme being run by India in the field of hydroelectric power in Nepal. The work of the Western Seti project was given to Australia before China. But he too turned away from it. At the same time, there was a dispute between China and Nepal on many issues regarding the Western Seti project. In this, the dispute about the rate of purchase of electricity after its creation was prominent.

The Chinese company said that the electricity rate quoted by Nepal is insufficient, but Nepal also did not change its rate. It is being told that China wanted to sell electricity at an arbitrary rate but Nepal did not come under its pressure. This is the reason why China withdrew from the project. And now India will complete the project work.
