Jonny Bairstow scored a century in the opening innings of the rescheduled Test series match against India. Before scoring his century, Virat Kohli had a run-in with him at Edgbaston. Now, the blame for the loss caused to India by this century is placed on the former Indian captain. Even Virender Sehwag himself believes that Kohli is responsible for the Bairstow century.
The former India starter has expressed his opinion by tweeting. He wrote, “Jonny Bairstow’s hit rate before the sled: 21, after the sled: 150…Playing as Pujara, Kohli made Pant sled unnecessarily.”
Sehwag is right about this. You can understand this through match statistics. Bairstow had scored just 16 runs on 64 balls with a strike rate of 25. But after the heat with Virat Kohli on the field, his style turned dangerous. After a verbal battle with Kohli, Bairstow suddenly changed teams. After this, he scored the next 90 runs on just 76 balls in his innings. He scored 106 runs in his innings. After an altercation with the former India captain, he increased his strike rate six times and pushed the scoreboard to a strike rate of around 150.
New Zealand multifaceted Jimmy Neesham also tweeted about the incident. He wrote, “Why the opposing team keeps bugging Jonny Bairstow, he gets 10 times better than this. Give them presents every morning, tell them you parked their car during their bat. Make them happy by doing anything.”
Sehwag and Neesham’s tone is amusing, but for Bairstow, they’re only considering the culprit Virat Kohli. Kohli is in the courtroom where he can walk away with his century in the next few innings or a win in the match.
