In Great Britain, employees of the Ikea group who are not vaccinated and who would be forced to isolate themselves because they are in contact will now be less well paid. The Swedish furniture giant has decided to pay only the legal minimum in the event of stoppage to these employees, reports the BBC.
People who have not been vaccinated and tested positive for Covid-19 or contact cases must self-isolate for a period of 10 days in Great Britain, recalls Capital. Faced with the Omicron wave, absenteeism is a problem in many companies. Ikea, which employs around 10,000 people across the Channel, has therefore decided to take this measure to encourage its employees to be vaccinated.
A significant drop in compensation
These people will receive only 96.35 pounds of sickness benefit per week (about 115 euros), while the weekly salary is between 400 to 450 pounds (480 to 540 euros). “People who benefit from a complete vaccination schedule or who are not vaccinated for medical reasons, such as pregnancy, will continue to receive the benefits provided until then,” said Ikea.
Originally, the Swedish giant had chosen to opt for a policy of encouraging vaccination but, the situation having deteriorated, officials decided to change their strategy to try to fight against absenteeism.
