Hungarian leader Viktor Orban offered Vladimir Putin to declare an ‘immediate ceasefire’

Hungarian nationalist Prime Minister Viktor Orban announced on Wednesday April 6 that he had suggested to Russian President Vladimir Putin, to whom he is close, to declare a “immediate ceasefire” and discuss with Ukrainian, French and German leaders. “He said yes, but with conditions”assured Viktor Orban, without giving more details.

“We will not send weapons to Ukraine”

Hungary, a member of the EU and NATO, has not specifically condemned Vladimir Putin since the start of the Russian military offensive, even though it condemned the invasion of Ukraine. “What is certain is that we will not send weapons to Ukraine. We will not give in to pressure to extend sanctions to Russian oil and gas”insisted Viktor Orban.

Asked about the Ukrainian town of Boutcha, northwest of kyiv, where dozens of corpses were discovered last week, he stood out from the wave of Western condemnations. “Of all the atrocities, I think all of them should be looked at, we live in an era of massive manipulation”he said.
