Hugo González, green light to travel to the Fukuoka World Cups

Hugo González, who has not been able to participate in the Spring Open and the Mare Nostrum circuit, finally has entered the squad list to play the Fukuoka World Cups in July, which will have a massive Spanish participation. The Spaniard is one of the 22 athletes mentioned, a figure that doubles those who attended the last two World Cups, in Gwangju and Budapest, good news for swimming at the gates of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The great absence, obviously, is that of Mireia Belmonte, who has not participated this course in any qualifying championship.

The Mallorcan swimmer achieved three minimums last weekend in the Mission Viejo Pro Swin Series (United States) not being able to travel to Barcelona due to visa problems. Hugo González, European champion and Olympic finalist, will swim the 50 and 200 backstroke and the 200 medley. Up to 12 swimmers will participate in individual tests, although the announcement clarifies that “The EN Management will assess offering classified swimmers the possibility of participating in the tests in which there are vacant places, as long as it understands that it does not affect the participation of the tests for which the selection has been achieved and they meet the criteria set. by the organization (WORLD AQUATICS) in the corresponding test”.
