According to the “Panda is bald” leaker on the social network Weibo, Huawei is preparing to unveil a smartphone named Mate V. Huawei is one of the few manufacturers to have a presence in the foldable smartphone market, and his next model might just be his first clamshell device.

Indeed, “Panda is bald” claims that the Mate V will not look like any other folding smartphone from the Chinese manufacturer, since it will be a clamshell device. While Huawei already competes with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 with its Mate X2, the manufacturer is now keen to take on the popular Galaxy Z Flip 3.

As is already the case with its Huawei Mate X2, Huawei could choose to equip its best optical technologies on its next flip smartphone. Indeed, while Samsung is satisfied with a very modest photo part on its folding smartphones since they have not inherited the sensors of the Galaxy S21 Ultra, Huawei has used most of its Mate 40 Pro + cameras on its Mate X2, which makes it the best folding smartphone in photos.

We imagine that Huawei could do it again with its clamshell Mate V, using at least two cameras from its high-end P50 smartphones. The Huawei Mate V should therefore use a 50 MP main sensor as well as a 13 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor., but we will probably have to wait for the official presentation to be sure.

“Panda is bald” nonetheless revealed thata prototype of the smartphone used a Kirin 9000 processor, which was introduced last year on the Huawei Mate 40 Pro 5G, and that the Mate V would be available by the end of the year. For now, it is not known whether or not Huawei plans to launch the smartphone in France, but it could well be that the clamshell device is reserved for the Chinese market.
