Myanmar: Myanmar’s military government made it clear on Thursday that ousted leader Aung San Suu Kyi had been moved to a separate quarter in prison from other inmates. Suu Kyi was arrested by the military on February 1, 2021, after her elected government was toppled. He was initially kept at his residence in the capital, Napita, but was later moved to another location. For the past one year, he was kept at an undisclosed location in Napita, which may have been an army base.
‘List was taken to the main prison in Napita’
Major General Jaw Min Tun, a spokesman for Myanmar’s ruling military council, made it clear that Suu Kyi was taken to Napita’s main prison on Wednesday, where she is kept separate from the rest of the prisoners in “good” condition. The news of his transfer came on Wednesday but it was not officially confirmed. He said Suu Kyi had already been convicted in several cases and was transferred to prison in accordance with the law.
‘Women policemen deployed to help Suu Kyi’
A legal official familiar with Suu Kyi’s court proceedings said she was being held in a newly constructed building along with three female policemen. These women policemen are there to help them. As he was not authorized to divulge details of his cases, the official, on condition of anonymity, said that the trial in his ongoing cases will also take place in another new building constructed in the jail itself.
Suu Kyi turned 77 on Sunday
Suu Kyi, who turned 77 on Sunday, spent nearly 15 years in detention under the previous military government, but was in fact under house arrest at her family home in Yangon, the country’s largest city. The secret place where she had been for more than a year was a residence. Another legal official said he had nine people to help him, with a request not to be named for fear of action by the government.

The officer also said that Suu Kyi was allowed to keep a dog that was given to her by one of her sons. Neither his former staff nor the dog would accompany him in the new jail, the official said.
