Rich Hill held off the St. Louis Cardinals in his longest start of the season and the Pittsburgh Pirates completed a three-game sweep with a 2-1 victory on Sunday.
Hill (5-5) allowed just four hits in 6 2/3 innings. The 43-year-old right-hander walked three and struck out six.
The Pirates stretched their winning streak to five. Pittsburgh swept their National League Central rivals for the first time in five years.
Hwan Bae’s two-run single off Miles Mikolas (4-2) in the first provided all the offense Hill needed.
David Bednar pitched the ninth for his 13th save and third in as many days.
For the Cardinals, the Venezuelan Juan Yépez 2-0.
For the Pirates, the Dominicans Carlos Santana 3-0 and Rodolfo Castro 4-0. The Venezuelan Tucupita Marcano 4-0.
