Karnataka Congress leader Raghupati Bhatt has demanded the removal of the principal who had barred Muslim girls wearing hijab from entering the college.
According to foreign media, the Congress leader accused the college principal of standing on the doorstep of the college at the behest of a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) assembly member to feed Muslim students.
Provincial Assembly member Raghupati Bhatt said that the principal, who was receiving salary from the state exchequer, stood at the door and closed the gate at the request of the BJP MLA, adding that the principal of the college should be sacked.
He said, “BJP wants to give saffron shawls to the students to give it a political turn. This is being done deliberately to create a problem. Why didn’t they come in saffron shawls for so many days?” Scarf (hijab) has been worn on the head for many years, it is a right enshrined in the constitution, why are you trying to stop it?
Congress leader Sada Ramya said that Karnataka Congress had stopped 19 Muslim female students at the entrance of Kandapur Pre-University College in Adopi district of the state for wearing hijab, which was against the basic rights of citizens. There is a violation.
