CSI3 Maeza: Billy Twomey Takes the Top Spot in the Winning Round of the Caixabank CSI3 Maeza Trophy
The winning round of the Caixabank CSI3* Maeza Trophy determined the winner of the big test on the second day of the CSI Maeza, held at the facilities of Finca Maeza Stud Farm. The test, with heights of 1.45 meters, was contested according to the Winning Round scale, with 11 pairs taking part.
Irishman Billy Twomey was the first to finish the zero, riding his horse "Chat Botte ED" and completing the course in 39.84 seconds. However, it was the Mexican rider Fernando Martinez Sommer who emerged as the fastest, taking 38.01 seconds to complete the course, which featured the double combination known as "CaixaBank," a key element in achieving the win ahead of Brazilian Marlon Modolo, who finished in 38.84 seconds with "Talina du Vivier Z."
Martínez Sommer received the Caixabank Trophy at the awards ceremony from Iñaki Gondra, Commercial Director of CaixaBank’s Northern Zone.
James Smith Takes the Top Spot in the Eulen Group Trophy
British rider James Smith demonstrated exceptional skill on the second day of the CSI3* Maeza, taking home the Eulen Group Trophy with "Juno Rose 23." This speed test, with 1.35-meter obstacles, was completed by Smith in 55.35 seconds. Laura Renwick, with "NFS Angelina," finished second, taking 56.16 seconds, while the Spaniard Jesús Garmendia, with "Valut 2," took third with a time of 56.28 seconds.
James Smith received the trophy from Dimas García Oma, Head of the Northwest Regional Office for Temporary Employment, Selection, and Training at EULEN flexiplan. Smith attributed his win to a good race, noting, "It was a good race, very fast at the end. At the beginning, I was able to observe several courses and plan my strategy. My mare jumped phenomenally – it was fantastic."
Maeza Equine Clinic Trophy Goes to Luis Jesús Escobar
Victory was won by Luis Jesús Escobar in the first test of the second day of the CSI Maeza, the Maeza Equine Clinic Trophy, with "Look Cool." This 1.25-meter test, featuring 26 pairs, was dominated by Escobar, who achieved the fastest time, finishing his course in 58.92 seconds. The Frenchman rode "Cuppydam du Pouey" to take second place with a time of 59.46 seconds. Ana Mateos Bernáldez also returned to the podium, third this time with the veteran horse "Providence 3."
The Maeza Equine Clinic Trophy was presented by Cruz Maestre, director of Yeguada Finca Maeza.

On Sunday, July 7, the following games will take place: three new tests will begin with the Oquendo Trophy at 10:00, followed by the Foncueva Trophy at 12:15, and the Maeza Grand Prix will close the weekend of competition at 16:00.
