Health: what are the risks associated with taking oxycodone?

Oxycodone is wreaking havoc in the United States. In France, the pharmacology society warns about this powerful painkiller. “With this powerful analgesic drug, from the opioid family, there is a risk of abuse and addiction which would be higher with oxycodone than with morphine”, introduces journalist and doctor Damien Mascret, present on the 19/20 set, Monday May 22. He is pointing out that “of the 11.9 million patients who were prescribed an opioid in 2021, 300,000 were oxycodone. A 738% increase between 2006 and 2017.”

“Very useful drugs”

The healthcare professional reassures and explains that “prescription is very framed in France”. You must know the signs of misuse: if for example you increase the quantities you take, if you reduce the time between two doses or if you get high or feel a powerful psychostimulant effect after taking your treatment. Consult your doctor, you may be slipping into abuse or addiction”recommends Damien Mascret who recalls that “Opioids remain very useful drugs”.
