Health pass: he sells fake certificates on eBay and risks 120 years in prison

Tangtang Zhao, a 34-year-old pharmacist who lives in Chicago, was among those who wanted to take advantage of the situation. for several weeks he has generated vaccine cards and then sold them for ten dollars on eBay.

One hundred fake health passes generated later, FBI finds

Success was not long in coming. A few days after launching its business, 12 people turned to its services for purchases ranging from eight to seventeen vaccine cards. In total there are more than 100 health passes created at sourceand therefore, theoretically, undetectable to the authorities. Just in theory, as the FBI and investigator Emmerson Buie Jr. were quick to track the network, probably helped by online classifieds by Tangtang Zhao.

Arrested, the pharmacist now faces 10 years in prison for each of the 12 counts he is charged with, that is, a sentence of 120 years in prison. “Consciously selling COVID vaccination cards to unvaccinated people puts millions of Americans at risk of serious injury or death”, commented Emmerson Buie Jr. “Placing such a low price on our nation’s security is not only an insult to those who play their part in the fight to stop COVID-19, but also a federal crime with grave consequences. “
