O Ministry of Health confirmed this Thursday that the entire population will receive a fourth dose against covid-19but it won’t be immediately, because first, as with the previous three, it will start with the oldest and the residents of the residences descending by age groups.
This was detailed to Efe by sources in the department he heads. Carolina Dariasafter the minister advanced in La Sexta that there will be a fourth dose for the entire population without specifying an exact date.
“There will be a fourth dose for the entire population, as decided by the Public Health Commission. Probably be close to autumn because on those dates we await the arrival of new vaccines adapted to variants, in accordance with the contracts that the Spanish Government has signed, through the European Union, with pharmaceutical companies”, said Darias.
Pending approval
But this new indication for all citizens has not yet been approved by the Commission and at the moment the current recommendation on a second booster dose involves only the most vulnerable population. That is, residents of residences and those over 80 years of age, when it is “the most appropriate time according to the epidemiological situation”.
One of the vaccines that Darias is waiting for is that of the Spanish pharmaceutical hiprawhose “hopeful” results gave indications of being able to “generate an immune response against different variants of the virus, including omicron”, as pointed out a few weeks ago in Congress.
To date, the only ones who were receiving a fourth puncture with an additional dose —which is not a reminder, as in their case they require to complete the regimen for not achieving an adequate level of protection like the others—are the high risk peoplesuch as some cancer patients, transplant patients, on dialysis or hemodialysis, over 40 years of age with Down syndrome or who use immunosuppressants, among others.
