Hall and Hoskins Hrs, Phillies beat SL, Arenado hits cycle

Darick Hall hit a tiebreaking homer, his third straight since being called up from the minors, and Rhys Hoskins homered to secure Friday’s Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 victory over the St. Louis Cardinals, who had a Nolan Arenado cycle.

The game was 3-3 in the sixth when Hall hit a 79 mph curveball from Miles Mikolas (5-6) into the right side stands.

All three of Hall’s hits have been home runs since his arrival Wednesday from Triple-A Lehigh Valley.

Hall, 26, hit two home runs in Thursday night’s 14-4 win over the Atlanta Braves.

Hoskins gave Philadelphia a two-run cushion in the seventh inning with his third home run in as many games. His homer was solo and he went out in the direction of center and left field.

The Phillies are 19-8 since interim manager Rob Thomson took over after Joe Girardi was fired last month.

Reliever José Alvarado (2-1) pitched two-thirds of an inning scoreless for the win. Brad Hand pitched the ninth inning blank and earned his third save in four chances.

For the Cardinals, the Venezuelan Juan Yépez 4-1. Dominican Albert Pujols 3-0. Panamanian Edmundo Sosa 3-0.
