Baghdad/Riyadh: The construction work of the Hajj highway between Iraq and Saudi Arabia has been completed by 70 percent, the journey from Najaf to Saudi Arabia will be shortened by the new highway.

According to Urdu News, 70% of the first phase of the highway from Najaf to Saudi Arabia has been completed.

Regarding the new highway from Iraq to Saudi Arabia, which has been named Hajj Road, the Ministry of Housing and Public Works of Iraq said that the journey from Najaf to Saudi Arabia will be shortened by the new highway.

According to the Iraqi Housing and Public Works report, the newly constructed highway has several phases, with 70 percent of the first phase almost completed.

Regarding the second phase, the report said that 35 percent of the work has been completed, including the construction of 60 bridges.

The construction of the Hajj highway will speed up the commercial and economic activities between Iraq and Saudi Arabia, and the Hajj and Umrah caravans coming to the Kingdom from bad roads will be facilitated through this highway.

It should be noted that the Saudi-Iraqi Council was established in 2017 with the aim of promoting relations between the two countries and bilateral tourism, cultural, commercial and media exchanges.

In 2022, the volume of trade between the two countries exceeded 5.7 billion riyals, while exports from Saudi Arabia to Iraq also increased by 132 percent.
