Guerrero Jr., with Hr 14, leads the victory of the Blue Jays

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. homered, Ross Stripling pitched one hit for six innings and the Toronto Blue Jays beat the Detroit Tigers 6-0 on Sunday.

Toronto took two of Detroit’s three games, posting 13 wins in 17 games. The Blue Jays have the third-best record in the American League, behind the Yankees, the East leaders in their division, and Houston, the West.

Only two teams in the Major Leagues, meanwhile, have won fewer games than Detroit this season.

Stripling (3-1) gave up just one hit for the second straight start and struck out four without walking. Yimi García, Trent Thornton and Jordan Romano accompanied him in relief of an unstoppable.

Tarik Skubal (5-3) lost for the first time since April 28 and spent only four innings on the mound, his shortest outing since the first of the season. Skubal struck out three in three shutout innings before allowing Guerrero a 421-foot drive, a two-run drive over the outfield wall between left-center. It was the Dominican’s 14th home run of the season.

For the Blue Jays, the Dominicans Guerrero 5-2, one scored and two RBIs; Teoscar Hernández 3-2, one scored; and Santiago Espinal 3-1, one scored. Mexican Alejandro Kirk 3-0, one scored. The Venezuelan Gabriel Moreno 3-0. Cuban Lourdes Gurriel Jr. 3-2, one run scored and three RBIs.

For the Tigers, the Venezuelans Miguel Cabrera 3-0; Victor Reyes 4-0; and Harold Castro 3-1. Puerto Rican Javier Báez 3-0.
