The Spanish Olympic Committee has made its commitment to the environment even more evident after this Monday inaugurating a photovoltaic solar plant at its Madrid headquarters in collaboration with the Ibereólica Renovables Group. Present at the event were Gregorio Álvarez, president of the Ibereólica Renovables Group, and the president of the Spanish Olympic Committee, Alejandro Blanco.

This project is part of the collaboration agreement renewed in September of this year between the Spanish Olympic Committee and the Ibereólica Renovables Group, exclusive partner of the COE in energy efficiency and development of renewable energies since 2018, and it is one more example of the firm commitment of both entities to disseminate in the world of sport an efficient energy management model based on the use of renewable energy.

The project, built by Grupo Ibereólica Renovables, consists of a 16 kW photovoltaic plant for self-consumption, whose generation of 22,740 kWh per year will be used, on the one hand, to supply the electricity consumption of the COE offices, and on the other hand to feed the double charger for electric vehicles that has also been installed by Grupo Ibereólica Renovables next to the aforementioned plant. Likewise, this facility will prevent the annual emission into the atmosphere of 600 tons of CO2, which is equivalent to planting 266 trees every year.

The will of both institutions is that This self-consumption project installed at the headquarters of the Olympic entity will be replicated in the future in other sports facilities.

In the words of Gregorio Álvarez, “contributing to the COE responding to its concern for sustainability, ensuring that today it has more energy efficient, sustainable and innovative facilities is a tremendous pride for us and, a clear example of the fundamental role that organizations must play to guarantee the sustainability of the planet and the improvement of people’s quality of life”.

Alejandro Blanco, for his part, commented that “this photovoltaic installation is one more step for the Spanish Olympic Committee to continue betting on renewable energies with a positive economic impact and on the planet.”. Our wish is that this COE model serves as an inspiration for the rest of Spanish sport to follow in the footsteps of the COE, betting on renewable energy and so that together we can build a better world”.
