Governor of Puerto Rico encourages Dominican construction companies to invest on the island

The governor of Puerto Rico, Pedro Pierluisi, encouraged this Thursday the companies of the Dominican Republic of the construction sector to invest in the Caribbean island, since he said that it presents a promising macroeconomic and fiscal scenario.

Pierluisi highlighted the economic strength of Puerto Rico before a delegation led by the Vice President of the Dominican Republic, Raquel Peña Rodríguez, who leads a group of government officials and businessmen from the construction sector in his country.

Pierluisi and the island’s Secretary of State, Omar Marrero, presented an optimistic picture of the fiscal situation, as well as a specific framework on the reconstruction projects in Puerto Rico.

During the First Reconstruction Opportunities Meeting in Puerto Rico, Pierluisi highlighted that after begin the debt restructuring process and with the outstanding economic growth of the island, it is time to invest in the Caribbean territory

"This is a great time to do business in Puerto Rico and Dominican companies must be ready to look at our island as the ideal destination to expand and export its goods and services"Held.

"Given the historic opportunity to make investments in infrastructure, with the more than 50,000 million that the United States Government has allocated for the reconstruction of our island, these investments will allow us to modernize and optimize our physical environment"said.

For his part, Marrero explained that today information is provided on the existing tax benefits for those companies that represent a capital investment in the Puerto Rican economy.

"As we know, it is important insert the workforce of our Dominican brothers in the process of rebuilding the island and thus be able to move forward with the development of all the projects on the agenda"Held.

The business meeting served for the executive director of the Central Office for Recovery, Reconstruction and Resilience (COR3), Manuel Laboy, and other officials to make presentations on reconstruction projects in the areas of housing, water and electricity, among others.

The event was attended by about 30 Dominican companies from the sector construction companies specializing in various types of infrastructure such as roads, homes, power plants and water processing plants, among others.
