Government will renovate Santo Domingo Este boardwalk at a cost of RD $ 550 million

The Minister of Tourism, David Collado, presented the project to renovate the Santo Domingo Este boardwalk, which seeks to be the symbol of the country’s boardwalks, at a cost of RD $ 550 million and a length of 4.3 square kilometers.

Collado announced that in December the first piezo of this work will be given, which was introduced by Shaney Peña, director of Planning and Projects of the Ministry of Tourism, highlighting that this intervention will be made from the military base to the exit on Avenida Las Américas in the Spain Avenue.

President Luis Abinader announced that within this intervention he will have the first Scape Park in Santo Domingo, where sports activities can be developed for the youth of the municipality and surrounding areas.

The president recalled that in Santo Domingo Este several works are being developed such as the construction or expansion of the San Isidro, Ecológica and Hípica avenues.

He stressed that with the project of the boardwalk, the municipality will improve the quality of life of its residents, in addition to promoting real estate projects and will have the tourist police.

The boardwalk is in the bidding process and this year it will be awarded so that it will be completely ready in 18 months. To this would be added other projects that are also in the pipeline that will add value to mass transportation, said Abinader.

The President of the Republic added that they are working to install a UASD headquarters in the municipality beyond the center that already exists on Mella avenue.

Renovation plan

One of the objectives of the improvement of the Malecón de Santo Domingo Este is to encourage urban tourism and position Santo Domingo in a catchment area for investment.

To develop this project, the government is proposing the addition of 400 vehicle parking lots and the vision of the Tourism Cabinet is to diversify the tourist offer, promote urban tourism, improve cultural heritage, among others.

Shanel Peña also expressed that the construction of a main accent and seven points of interest is contemplated.

The road intervention includes renovation of the central island, expanded sidewalk, plus bike lane; speed reducers (4UD). In addition, a new green coastal landscape line, universal steel ramps and signage.

The renovated boardwalk of this municipality would include urban furniture and equipment, as well as pedestrian paths that connect all the spaces, the authorities highlighted.

The works will be in charge of the Committee of Infrastructures in Tourist Zones (CEIZTUR).
