Government begins construction work on Play Los Toros in the province of Azua

The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, led the opening ceremony that begins the construction work of the Los Toros community baseball park in Azua, which will benefit more than 2,000 young people from the province.

The work will be carried out through the Presidential Commission to Support Provincial Development (CPADP) and is valued at more than RD$20 million.

The president of the CPADP, Ángel De la Cruz, stated that the government is very interested in promoting sports in the country since young people find a refuge there and stay away from delinquency, while adding that this stadium is one of the hundreds of projects that are underway in this province.

“Azua is no longer a forgotten province. More than 40 major league prospects have come out of this demarcation that have raised our flag high and that can continue to be achieved with infrastructures like this one,” said De la Cruz.

The official pointed out that the building will have capacity for approximately 120 people, it will have two covered stands in Aluzinc with three rows of seats, as well as two dugouts for 12 players, both with bathrooms and a dressing room.

In addition, he said that it will be equipped with eight light poles with lamps. Sidewalks will be rebuilt and a perimeter fence will be erected, among other specifications.

While the mayor for the municipal district of Los Toros, Eladio Marte, thanked President Luis Abinader for taking into account this work that the citizens have waited for more than 40 years. “Today the dream of a working community that has been clamoring for the construction of this play for more than 40 years comes true,” said Marte.

The activity was attended by the provincial governor, Ángela (Grey) Pérez Díaz, senator Lía Ynocencia Díaz, deputy Ogando Campos, Brenda Mercedes, the baseball player from Azua, Adalberto Méndez, among other authorities.
