Giorgi Shermadini repeats as winner of the top individual prize in the Endesa League after another great season with Lenovo Tenerife. The Tenerife center has been proclaimed MVP of the 2022/23 season by the ACB.
Last year the praise went to Dzanan Musa, who got away with Río Breogán and that earned him the signing for Real Madrid (whom he represents in the best five). The previous one had already been for Shermadini. Once again, the award was given to him by Marcelinho Huertas, his fellow adventures in the lagoon team, but this time in a plane, at 11,000 meters of altitude, to exceed the height of the previous delivery (which took place on the Pico del Teide ).
The vote has been widely won by Gio. He has obtained 29 points from the popular vote, 11 from coaches, 21 from players and 27.6 from the press, which has led him to a total of 88.6. Darius Thompson, outside Baskonia, was second with 63.2. The aforementioned Dzanan Musa has completed the podium with 58.
Shermadini has once again been the leader of Vidorreta’s Tenerife with these numbers: 14.4 points, 5.4 rebounds, 1.2 assists, 0.4 recoveries, 0.4 blocks and 4.9 fouls received. His 18.7 rating is the highest average in the competition during the regular season.
Shermadini gets this second trophy at the age of 34 and at a maturity that keeps him among the best interior players on the European continent. With this double he equals Felipe Reyes, Nikola Mirotic, Tanoka Beard, Luis Scola and Arvydas Sabonis, who also won it twice, and is one away from Darryl Middleton’s record, who took it home three times.
The ACB has also made public, in one go, the Ideal Quintet. In addition to shermadini there are those mentioned Muse (Madrid) and Thompson (Baskonia) in addition to the Cape Verdean center Walter Tavares, from Madridand the American base Markus Howard, from Baskonia.
