Fire tears through a Malaysian neighborhood after a gas pipe explodes, shooting flames into the air as high as a 20-story building. The blast happened in the state of Selangor, at a spot called Putra Heights, on Tuesday, April 1, 2024.
Aftermath of the Explosion
People felt the ground shake around 8:10 am when it happened. Now, 145 people are hurt. Most have burns or trouble breathing. Some houses and cars are damaged. The fire department says 190 homes, 148 cars, and 11 motorcycles are damaged.
Help for Those Affected
The prime minister is giving money to people whose homes are damaged. Those whose homes are totally destroyed will get 5,000 Malaysian ringgit (around 38,500 Thai baht). Those with partially damaged homes will get 2,500 ringgit.
Firefighters finally put out the fire at 3:45 pm local time, almost 8 hours after it started. They had to move 305 people out of the area to keep them safe. The government is looking into what caused the explosion.
