The future Minister of Education and Culture, José Carlos Mahía, fell victim to a robbery this week near the summer theater in Montevideo. According to the police report he filed, his car was broken into, and several personal items, including important documents related to the transition at the Ministry of Education, were stolen.
The incident occurred on Wednesday night when Mahía attended an event at the summer theater, parking his car on Julio María Sosa and La Rambla street. Upon returning to his vehicle at midnight, he discovered that the glass on the right rear door had been broken. Inside, the car was in disarray, and a backpack containing transition documents was missing. Mahía confirmed this to the press, highlighting the significance of the stolen items.
As part of the investigation, the police have been reviewing surveillance footage from cameras in the area, including those around the golf club, in an attempt to locate the stolen objects. However, as of now, none of the items have been recovered. Among the stolen belongings was a gift presented by Vice President Beatriz Argimón to senators from the previous legislature, adding a symbolic loss to the material theft.
The theft not only raises concerns about personal security in the area but also highlights the vulnerability of sensitive information and valuable items to criminal activities. The police continue their efforts to retrieve the stolen items and apprehend those responsible, ensuring the safety and security of public figures and their important documents.
