From the howitzer of Mick to Vettel to the radio of Ocon and Alonso

The chronicle of events of the Miami GP was complete: a double accident between the two German drivers, Schumacher and Vettel; a touch from Alonso to Gasly; plus a subsequent clash of the French with Norris, apart from intense fights between the Aston Martin and Haas or even the two Mercedes. Mick and ‘Seb’, who have a very good relationship off the track, did not draw any blood from the incident. “I have to see it from the outside,” said the Kaiser’s son, apparently guilty, while the four-time champion closed the chapter with a clear: “I did not expect it, let’s put it that way.”

Fernando apologized to Gasly and took the five second penalty, “deserved”. The Frenchman regretted it: “I’m very disappointed, it was a good afternoon. I had a good start overtaking Lewis. I was running seventh and aiming for eighth until Fernando hit me and broke the car in the rear right area. I took another lap to see if I could continue I was going really slow on the way to the pits, then everyone passed me at turn seven And Norris came along and knocked wheel to wheel.” The one from Alpha Tauri was confused after Lando’s crash, inexplicable, which seems like a distraction from the Englishman, although when he got out of the car he didn’t have it figured out.

The radio of Ocon and Alonso

A radio communication to Ocon issued during the broadcast caused some controversy after the race. They asked him to open a cushion of five seconds behind Alonso to save the penalty and he apparently refused: “I can’t do it, really, they’re going to overtake me”. The full radio reveals that he asked for the gap between Fernando and the next car to be updated on the last lap, and his engineer did so, confirming that Albon was 5.5 seconds behind Alonso, and that the Spaniard would only lose position with his teammate of equipment. “It is difficult to do that, the plan was that Esteban could participate in a gap of five seconds. But it wasn’t necessary, because Fernando was faster than Albon, who was the driver behind at the time (he was 10th), so it wasn’t necessary,” explained team principal Szafnauer.

Then Fernando would have another penalty that would leave him 11th for exceeding the track limits, It’s more difficult to explain because a black-and-white flag (the yellow card) turned two hours into the race into an extra five-second penalty for missing a curb.
