French influencers could be jailed or fined up to €300,000 if this law is passed

In order to protect people from the negative mental health repercussions linked to the use of social networks, the National Assembly of the French Parliament passed a bill introducing some new laws to influencers.

The bill would change the way in which influencers French publication and would force platforms to create new tools to flag violations.

Provisions of the bill include:

  • demand that all influencers have to reveal whether they are using a filter.
  • demand everything influencers that reveal whether your face or body has been photoshopped.
  • requires everything influencers that they make it clear that your post is a paid promotion. France already requires sponsored content to be clear to users, but that legislation would require the notice to appear in a banner in photos and videos, not just in the description.
  • Requiring social media platforms to create channels for consumers to report influencers.
  • submit to influencers to the same rules as the traditional media, limiting their promotions to financial products (hello, cryptocurrencies), alcohol, tobacco, etc.

If the project is approved, influencers will face heavy consequences for not meeting the new requirements: up to six months in prison and a fine of 300,000 euros.
