At least four people died when a bus drove into a procession on Sunday Easter in the state of Pernambuco, in the northeast of Brazilthe governor reported.
“My condolences go out to the faithful and families who were victims of the accident during the procession in Jaboatao that killed at least four people,” regional director Raquel Lyra said on Instagram.
About twenty people were also injured in the accident in the municipality of Jaboatao dos Guararapes, in the Recife metropolitan area, according to the local press, citing firefighters.

In a video broadcast on social networks and media, the bus can be seen traveling at high speed down a steep street until it reaches the crowd accompanying the procession below.
The believers scream and try to run away. “A tragedy has happened, something incredible, very sad,” an emotional witness said in a video on Instagram.
“I took part in the procession of the Permanent Help Church, there were many people there, children, elderly people. They let a minibus pass, which lost its brakes and ended up running over a lot of people,” he added.
According to local media, the bus driver fled the scene of the accident.
Governor Lyra said firefighters and health services had attended to the victims and that “police will investigate and punish those responsible.”
