The Argentine driver Franco Colapinto captured his best performance in Formula 3 this Sunday, after qualifying in second place in the Spanish Grand Prix behind the winner, the local Josep María Martí.

In the run-up to the Formula 1 race, at the Catalan circuit of Montmeló, the 20-year-old from Pilar crossed the finish line just 4.463 seconds behind the winner, ahead of the Swede Dino Beganovic, who completed the podium.

With sixth place achieved in the Sprint on Saturday, the MP Motorsport team driver rounded off a 23-point lead in Barcelona, ​​which became the highest since his arrival in the category at the beginning of the season.

The Argentine, a member of the Williams Academy, had added 10 points during his time in Bahrain and 15 the previous weekend in Monaco, after leaving blank on the second date held in Melbourne.

With a total of 48 points, Colapinto occupies sixth place in the overall F3 positions, led by Brazilian Gabriel Bortoleto (92), from the Trident team, today relegated to fourth place in the Spanish GP.

Between the leader and the Argentine are Martí with 68 units, Beganovic with 61, the Italian Gabriele Miní with 56 and the Estonian Paul Aron with 54.

The next date of the F3 season, which canceled its third stage in Imola due to flooding, will be held on Sunday, July 2, at the Spielberg circuit in Austria.
