The current two-time world champion Max Verstappen, from the Red Bull team, winner of the Constructors’ Cup last year, took pole position this Saturday to start first in the Bahrain Grand Prix, the first race of the 2023 Formula 1 season.

The Dutchman Verstappen, in charge of interrupting the reign of the maximum champion of the category, the British Lewis Hamilton (seven titles), took the first “pole” of the season -the number 21 of his career- by one tenth and left second place to his teammate from the Red Bull team, Sergio “Checo” Pérez.

The Bahrain Grand Prix, the first of the 23 stages of the year, will start this Sunday at 12:00 with a Star+ broadcast for 57 laps on the Sakhir International Circuit, where Red Bull has not won for 10 years.

After the Red Bull, the Ferraris of Monegasque Charles Leclerc (third) will come out, despite the fact that he lost pieces on the circuit and forced the first red flag in a session to order the starting grid, and the Spanish Carlos Sainz (fourth).

Also Spanish Fernando Alonso, the fastest in the second and third practices at the Sakhir circuit, will start fifth. The two-time champion is the new Aston Martin driver to replace the retired German four-time champion Sebastian Vettel. The British George Russell and Lewis Hamilton, with their Mercedes, will start in sixth and seventh place respectively.

Canadian Lance Stroll, who is recovering from a broken wrist, took eighth place in his Aston Martin; while the experienced German Nico Hulkenberg (Haas) will start tenth.

The three rookie drivers of the year will start a little further behind: the American Logan Sargeant (22 years old), from Williams, the team that added Argentine Franco Colapinto (19) to its academy, was 16th. Meanwhile, the Australian Oscar Piastri (21 years old, McLaren) will start 18th. and the Dutchman Nyck de Vries (28, AlphaTauri), in 19th. place.
