Formula 1: Sainz got his first pole position

The Spanish Carlos Sainz Jr. (Ferrari) achieved this Saturday the best qualifying time at the Silverstone circuit and signed his first pole position in Formula 1, which this Sunday will celebrate its tenth date with the British Grand Prix.

The 27-year-old driver from Madrid got that privilege to compete tomorrow in his 150th race in the highest category of motorsports, with the illusion of embracing his first victory. Sainz occupied the podium 11 times in F1, five of them for finishing as the first escort: in Monza 2020, Monaco 2021 and this year in Bahrain, again Monaco and Canada, the previous date.

The second starting position will be occupied by the Dutchman Max Verstappen of Red Bull, leader of the Drivers’ World Championship with 175 points and an advantage of 46 over his teammate Sergio “Checo” Pérez. The Mexican will start from fourth position, behind the Monegasque Charles Leclerc, the other Ferrari driver. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) qualified fifth, ahead of Lando Norris (McLaren), Fernando Alonso (Alpine Renault), George Russell (Mercedes), Zhou Guanyu (Alfa Romeo) and Nicholas Latifi.

The British Grand Prix will take place this Sunday from 11:00 in Argentina to 52 laps on the Silverstone circuit (5,891 meters), with transmission from the Star+ platform. Hamilton is its maximum winner with 8 crowns, three of them in the most recent editions. In his gallery of champions there are also Argentines José Froilán González (1951 and 1954); Juan Manuel Fangio (1956) and Carlos Reutemann (1978, on the Brands Hatch track), all with Ferrari.
